Two years ago, Graymoor-Devondale partnered with Louisville Metro District 7 and Councilwoman Paula McCraney, along with St. Albert the Great, to design and install a sidewalk along the north side of Girard Drive between Westport Road and Graymoor Road. The goal was simple: create a safer place for neighbors and students walking to St. Albert’s.
The project was very successful. Residents shared positive feedback, and we saw a noticeable increase in pedestrians using the new sidewalk.
However, the remainder of Girard Drive between Graymoor Road and Crossmoor Lane still had no sidewalk, forcing pedestrians to walk on an increasingly busy roadway.
To address this, the city again partnered with Louisville Metro to install a sidewalk along the remaining stretch of Girard Drive. When completed, this project will close the loop, allowing residents to safely walk from:
Crossmoor Lane → Herr Lane → Westport Road → and back down the full length of Girard Drive.
Construction began in mid-February and is scheduled to be substantially completed in early April.
Additional benefits of the project include:
- A 5-foot-wide sidewalk designed to meet current and future ADA accessibility requirements.
- Improvements to long-standing drainage issues along Girard Drive.
- Safe pedestrian access connecting multiple parts of our neighborhood.
Due to efficient work from the contractor and project management team, portions near Crossmoor Lane are already complete and ready for use.
We encourage residents to take a walk and try the new sidewalks.
If you have questions, feedback, or suggestions for other locations in Graymoor-Devondale that may benefit from sidewalks, please let the city know.
