Mission & Core Values

What guides the Lyndon Police Department in serving the community

Mission Statement

The mission of the Lyndon Police Department is to provide a safe and secure environment in which the citizens of our community can live and work by preventing criminal activity and identifying, apprehending and assisting in the prosecution of those who commit crimes. In addition, we will strive to protect and defend those who cannot take care of themselves. As individuals, in our professional and personal lives, we will be role models for the community we serve.

Goals

Police Department Goals:

  • Reduce and prevent criminal activity.
  • Apprehend those who break the law.
  • Resolve conflict in ways that leave individual dignity intact.
  • Be active participants in community problem-solving.
  • Treat all persons with respect, courtesy, and compassion.

Values

These values are our very core and are non-negotiable:

  • Value human life above all else.
  • Value individual rights, human dignity, and all members of the community.
  • Value the law as the foundation for order in society.
  • Value integrity, ethical conduct, accountability, courage, and service.

Traffic Safety & Data

Providing transparent data and resources to ensure the safety of our neighborhood streets.

Traffic Safety & Perception

We understand that traffic speed is a primary concern for our residents. To help our community understand how speed is measured and the difference between perceived vs. actual speeds, we encourage you to read Speeding Perception vs. Reality: What Data Reveals About Neighborhood Traffic Concerns. The City continues to evaluate all options for traffic control, including increased monitoring and physical safety measures.

Data-Driven Goals

Our traffic safety priorities are shaped by measured conditions and community impact:

  • Use verified traffic data to better understand where speeding concerns are most significant.
  • Identify recurring problem areas by reviewing speed patterns, traffic volume, and time-of-day activity.
  • Support targeted traffic safety improvements where evidence shows the greatest need.
  • Monitor trends over time so decisions reflect consistent roadway behavior, not isolated moments.
  • Communicate findings clearly so residents can see how safety decisions are informed.

Guiding Principles

Our approach to neighborhood traffic safety is built on these core principles:

  • Take resident concerns seriously while also relying on measured data to understand actual roadway conditions.
  • Promote transparency by sharing clear, accessible information about traffic patterns and safety concerns.
  • Encourage fair, evidence-based decisions when considering enforcement or traffic-calming measures.
  • Focus on practical solutions that improve safety while respecting the experience of the community.
  • Build trust through consistency, clarity, and a commitment to informed action.
